EWIS (Electrical Wiring Interconnection System)

The EWIS Course (Electrical Wiring Interconnection System) has as main objectives:
  • Know the safe use of EWIS, LRU (Line Replaceable Units), tools, troubleshooting procedures and electrical measurements.
  • Know the wiring maintenance manuals and how to handle with these manuals.
  • Know and differentiate the types of inspections, human factors in inspections, zonal areas and typical damage.
  • Know the sources of contamination, materials, cleaning and security procedures.
  • Know the correct identification of different types of electric cables, inspection criteria, damage tolerance, repair procedures and preventive maintenance.
  • Know the procedures to identify, inspect and set the correct repair of the typical chips found in aircraft.
  • Demonstrate the procedures to replace the typical chips found in aircraft.

The EWIS (Electrical Wiring Interconnection System) training is structured by groups according to their receivers:

Group 1 – Qualified staff performing EWIS maintenanceThe technicians perform wiring systems maintenance and their training is based on the description of their work and in their work actually performed. (Category B2 Technician or Technicians with Avionics knowledge).

Group 2 – Qualified staff performing maintenance inspections on wiring systemsThese technicians perform EWIS inspections (but not maintenance) and their training is based on the description of their work and in their work actually performed. (Inspectors/Category B2 Technicians).

Group 3 – Qualified staff performing electrical/avionic engineering on in-service aeroplanesThese staff are authorized to perform engineering projects in installations, modifications and repairs to EWIS (Electrotechnical/Avionics Enginner).

Group 4 – Qualified staff performing general maintenance/inspections not involving wire maintenance (LRU change is not considered wire maintenance)These technicians perform maintenance on aircraft that may require removal/reinstallation of electrical systems. (Inspectors/Category A or B1 Technicians).

Group 5 – Qualified staff performing other engineering or planning work on in-service aeroplanesThese employees are allowed to devise mechanical or structural, facility systems, modifications and repairs, or planning maintenance tasks.

Group 6 – Other service staff with duties in proximity to EWISThese employees are persons whose duties may have links/viewing of aircraft’s wiring systems. These functions may include, but is not limited to personnel of: aircraft cleaning, loading, refueling, restrooms, defrost or towage.

Group 7 – Flight deck crew (pilots, co-pilots, flight engineer).

Group 8 – Cabin crew.
